When an individual is seeking disability benefits from the Social Security Administration, they must file a disability claim and fill out a disability form called the Social Security disability application. It’s important for an individual who wants to file a disability claim to understand the benefits they are requesting and the eligibility they may have for these benefits.

•	Someone filing a disability claim for themselves or a family remember must keep in mind that they must be under the age of 65 and unable to work due to a disability. The disability form includes a section of answers for frequently asked questions that one may have about filing a disability claim. When filing a disability claim, an individual should know what the Social Security Administration considers disabled.

•	On the disability form, a disability is defined as the inability to participate in any former work related activity, as well as any other possible work related activities. This will be determined by any medical physician or mental impairment; the disability must be expected to last for at least one year or result in the death of the individual.

•	When the disability form is filled out, an interview is given in regards to the disability claim by a Social Security representative. The interview for the disability claim will last about a hour and the representative will ask the individual questions regarding their work history, family and actual disability. During this time, the disability form will be completed.

•	After the interview is completed, the individual’s disability claim is forwarded to a state agency. A specialist at the state agency known as an examiner will determine if the disability claim is valid or not by requesting the individual’s medical records and evaluating them to see if the person’s disability follows the same conditions mentioned in the disability form.

•	Usually, a disability claim decision will take less than four months to make. There are times when a disability claim can take longer than four months. This is due to several possible factors. If an individual is missing information on the disability form, then there could be time added on to the process. If the examiner has trouble gaining access to the individual’s medical records for their disability claim there will be a delay. Lastly, if the disability claim is denied and an appeal is requested by the individual filing the disability claim, then the disability claim process will have to be redone.

Filling out the disability form properly is a large factor in determining how long the disability claim will take to be accepted or denied. Checking with the Social Security representative to make sure that the disability form is filled out properly is smart idea when filing a disability claim.

When an individual is injured or sick and can no longer complete their required job duties, they may seek out Social Security disability benefits. Receiving these Social Security disability benefits are a process that begins when one fills out the Social Security disability application.

•	The Social Security disability benefits that may be available to a person is financial and medical benefits. An individual who finds themselves disabled may be eligible to receive 50% to 75% of their previous salary. Another Social Security disability benefit is the possibility of health insurance. If an individual is disabled for two years or more, Social Security disability benefits will automatically include access to Medicare.

•	The Social Security disability application can be found on the Internet or in person at a Social Security office. When applying for Social Security disability benefits, it is necessary to fill out this Social Security disability application and have an interview with a Social Security representative. This interview can take place on the telephone or in person, depending on the individual’s circumstances.

•	Although the Social Security disability application will be finished at this interview, an individual can fill out a large portion of it on the Internet. When applying for Social Security disability benefits online, an individual should begin by visiting the official Social Security website to electronically fill out the Social Security disability application.

•	The Social Security disability application has three sections. The first section is a general information section that supplies the answers for commonly asked questions about Social Security disability benefits. This is called the disability starter kit. This part of the Social Security disability application does not need to be filled out, only read.

•	The second part of the Social Security disability application is the basic application that inquires about an individual’s work circumstances, disability, family, and possible previous worker’s compensating issues. This form is standard and these same questions will also be asked on the interview one must participate in to receive Social Security disability benefits.

•	The third part of the Social Security disability application is called the adult disability report. An individual must give consent for the Social Security Administration to speak with the individual’s doctor before they can receive Social Security disability benefits. Without this consent, an individual will not be able to get any type of Social Security disability benefits.

An individual’s ability to receive Social Security disability benefits depend on the amount of earned income they have, or the amount of Social Security tax that they have paid in their lifetime. Social Security disability benefits are not granted because of financial need, like Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is nor does it have anything to do with the severity of the disability.

When an individual finds themselves unable to perform their job as a result of a disability, it may be necessary for them to begin applying for disability benefits through Social Security. When finding out how to get disability benefits, an individual will find that they must take a series of steps while applying for disability.

•	Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Services disability income programs are federal programs that help individuals applying for disability. It is through one of these programs that an individual will receive their disability benefits. Only people who meet certain requirements should consider applying for disability benefits.

•	When an individual is inquiring on how to get disability benefits, they will find that the Internet is a good place to get information on applying for disability. When applying for disability, the Social Security Administration will gather information from an individual about their disability to see if they qualify.

•	There are some things that a person should know when they are wondering how to get disability insurance. Applying for disability can be done on the Internet, the telephone, or in person at a Social Security office. A person should be aware that applying for disability benefits online is only possible if they are over the age of 18. A social security application must be filled out. Applying for disability benefits will require an individual to have an interview with a Social Security representative.

•	At the interview, a person applying for disability benefits will be asked a series of questions. When applying for disability, a person must be able to give the Social Security Administration permission to speak with their doctor about issues regarding their disability. The doctor’s information will be collected in one section of the disability application called the Adult Disability Report. This report is necessary when applying for disability.

•	When applying for disability benefits in person or on the telephone, the interview should take about a hour. This interview will be conducted by telephone or in person at a Social Security office. A Social Security claims representative will ask the individual certain questions about the work that they performed during the prior years until the actual date that the individual became disabled or unable to work. When applying for disability, an individual must also provide their medical history dating back at least 12 months before the date that they became disabled.

•	When wondering how to get disability, a person should also consider the basic information that must be supplied and they must be willing to cooperate with the Social Security Administration. Some basic questions that one might be asked when applying for disability are about the individual’s family, military service and any past worker’s compensation incidents.

Once the interview and application are completed, a person’s next step in applying for disability is to wait for their claim to be reviewed by a state agent. Finding out if one will be eligible to start receiving disability benefits should generally take less than four months.

If an individual is disabled, they may be entitled to benefits from the government to supplement their income if they are unable to work. Disabled people may have a right to receive these benefits for a short term period or a long term period.

•	If an individual is disabled in the eyes of Social Security, it mean that their disability fits some government requirements. To start with, disabled people must be unable to perform the job tasks that they were able to at their job before the disability occurred. Disabled people who are eligible for benefits must not have the ability to do what their job requested of them anymore.

•	If someone is disabled in the eyes of Social Security, then they must be unable to get any other type of job as a result of their disability. Their ability to work at another job will be determined by the extent of their disability. If someone is disabled, their ability to get another job is also determined by their experience, age and education.

•	A disabled person must have a disability that will last at least one year or will be likely to result in death. Social Security benefits only used to be available to disabled people who were going to be disabled indefinitely. That rule was updated in 1965.

•	The amount of money that a disabled person will be eligible to receive as a benefit depends on the amount of earned income they have and not the disability itself. Typically, disabled people have a right to receive 50% to 75% of their normal salary if they find themselves to be disabled. There are currently about five million disabled people in the United States who receive some form of disability benefits, either from Social Security or Social Security Income, which is the two programs that help disabled people receive financial and medical benefits as a result of their disability.

•	A disabled person is eligible to apply for disability if they are sick or injured with a disability that will last at least 90 days for a short term amount of time. Disabled people who wish to receive disability benefits for longer periods of time should apply for long term disability. This long term disability is often used by disabled people when their short term disability eligibility runs out.

When a person becomes disabled, it could affect their entire family and put a financial strain on them. The point of Social Security benefits are to help lift some of that financial burden off the disabled individual and their family.

The purposes of Social Security disability and SSI disability are to help disabled individuals and their families receive a financial stipend to help support themselves. Social Security disability is given to individuals who meet the medical criteria for being officially disabled in the eyes of the Social Security disability organization, known as the Social Security Income Program. SSI disabilities pays benefits to people who are injured and have low incomes, as well as individuals who may have suffered a disability before the age of 22.

•	When an individual applies for Social Security disability, they must make sure that they fit certain criteria required. The biggest criteria to meet is the disability itself. To receive SSI disabilities, an individual’s disability is determined on an individual’s inability to work and their lack of income. There are three characteristics of the disability rule whether determining whether or not an individual’s disability qualifies as a Social Security disability. The first rule is that an individual must be physically unable to do the same work that they did before the injury. The second rule for trying to receive Social Security disability is that the Social Security Income Program must determine that the individual cannot perform in a different line of work because of their medical condition. The third rule for receiving SSI disability benefits are that one must have a disability that will last at least a year or result in death.

•	Social Security disability dates back to 1954, when both the Senate and the House voted in favor of the proposal and then President Eisenhower made the final decision to add sign Social Security disability into the Social Security’s package of protection. This was added because of both the disability freeze and Social Security disability becoming necessary as worker’s began losing income because of their disabilities. SSI disabilities now individual financial benefits for those with a qualifying disability.

•	Another social security disability change came as an updated definition of disability. The Social Security Amendments of 1965 threw away the requirement that the disability be indefinite for an individual to qualify for SSI disabilities. The new requirement was a time period of 12 months. With these changes and the rising public knowledge of the new social security disability program, the number of people grew immensely. The number of applicants who apply for Social Security disability is about 650,000 each year. Currently, SSI benefits offer rehabilitation programs for individuals receiving social security disability in the hopes of getting them back into the workforce.

Social Security disability has come a long way since the original social security program that only helped the elderly. Statistically, the social security disability insurance program gives replacement income to over 2.5 million disabled workers and their families. On top of that number, an additional 2.3 million disabled low income individuals receive benefits due to the SSI disabilities program.

An individual who is injured and unable to work as a result may be eligible to receive disability benefits through disability services. One will have to apply for these disability benefits on their own behalf. The process of using disability services begin with filling out the disability application. However, an individual should not apply unless they meet the standards for receiving the monthly cash benefits individuals who qualify for Social Service disability benefits receive.

•	There are many disability services available for individuals who suffer from a disability. What does Social Services consider to be a disability though? They have regulations for determining whether or not an individual’s disability may qualify them for disability services. Before filling out the Social Security disability application, one should check to see if they meet the certain criteria. First off, an individual seeking disability services must be unable to perform the work that they had done before. Commonly, this may involve some form of manual labor such as construction. Because the individual is injured and their job requires strenuous effort, they may be eligible for disability services.

•	Secondly, before filling out the disability application, one should be sure that they are unable to work in any other field because of their injury. Lastly, if the individual wants to be able to use disability services, they must have a condition that will keep them from working for at least 12 months. The exception is if the disability is likely to cause death. If an individual meets these requirements, they can try to obtain disability services and benefits by applying for disability.

•	The Social Security disability application is available on the Internet on the official Social Security website. The disability application has three steps that must be taken before it is completed and the individual is able to use disability services. The first step is looking over the disability starter kit. This is a fact sheet with answers for common questions about disability services. During this period, an individual will also make an appointment at a local Social Security office. During this interview, the individual will finish the application with the help of a representative. The interview will take about a hour.

•	The second part of the disability application is a standard application that asks several questions about the individual, their work experience, and a quick account of the actual injury that caused the disability. The third part of the disability application is called the adult disability report. This section is a very detailed account of the reasons for the disability as well as a form that must be signed giving the Social Security office permission to contact the individual’s doctor to get information about the injury.

If one does not wish to apply online, they can also apply over the telephone or in person at any Social Security office. The Internet is the quickest way to fill out the disability application and begin the process of having the ability to use disability services.

Disability benefits may be available to individuals who are injured and unable to work. Social Security, which used to only provide benefits to retirees, now helps individuals who are injured by supplying them with disability benefits, proving they fit the qualifications and requirements.

•	There are two different programs that provide disability benefits for an individual being injured. The first one is the Social Security disability insurance program. An individual and members of their families may be eligible for this disability insurance if they have worked for a long enough period of time and have been continuously paying Social Security taxes. In addition, an adult child may qualify for disability benefits if they have a disability that starts before they turned 22-years-old.

•	The second disability insurance program that an individual may be eligible to receive disability benefits from is called the Supplemental Security income, or SSI disability. The difference among Supplemental Security income and Social Security disability insurance is that Social Security disability insurance is based on an individual’s prior work under Social Services and Supplemental Security income is based on the financial needs of the individual.

•	Social Security disability insurance is financed with Social Security taxes. These are the payments made by workers and employers and they are deducted from each paycheck. To be eligible for Social Security disability benefits, the worker must earn enough credits based on taxable work, meaning they must have been paying Social Security from their own paychecks for a period of time. These Social Security disability benefits are then paid to workers that are disabled, blind, sick or injured. The monetary amount of the monthly disability benefits that the eligible worker will receive is based on the Social Security earnings record of the worker.

•	The extent of the injury or disability does not matter when it comes to receiving disability benefits. A disability benefit only depends on the amount of an individual’s lifetime earnings and has nothing to do with the condition of their disability, injury, or sickness.

•	Another disability benefit that may be available under disability insurance is health insurance. Most likely, this health care will be provided by Medicare. If an individual is receiving disability benefits for a minimum of two years, the disability insurance will kick in by having Social Security enroll the individual in Medicare automatically. This 24 months is counted from the actual time of disablement, not the time when the individual began receiving the monetary disability benefits. Two special circumstances exist for people with permanent kidney failure or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Because of the deadly nature of these issues, the disability insurance for these individuals will start as soon as they are officially entitled to receive disability benefits.

A company having some form of disability insurance for its employees are considered to be one of the most important benefits that can be offered. Statistically, three in ten workers among the ages of 25 and 65 will be disabled and unable to work for at least three months in their lifetimes. That high number alone shows how important it is to have access to disability benefits.

Three out of every ten workers between the ages of 25 and 65 will have an injury that will leave them unable to work for three months or more. With this statistic, long term disability insurance is an important thing for a company to provide to its workers. Many employers do not offer this to their employees, preferring instead to offer short term disability insurance or none at all. However, disability insurance is considered to be one the most important benefits to receive at a job, especially long term disability insurance.

•	Roughly 60% of individuals injuries happen when they are not working. Worker’s compensation will not help them since they were not injured as a result of their job. A long term disability plan can help the injured employee receive a portion of their salary while they are unable to earn a living. Usually, a long term disability policy will start up after the employees short term disability insurance has expired.

•	Years ago, many employers chose to spring for the full price of long term disability insurance. Now, long term disability insurance is usually paid for in different ways. A disability insurer may help to fund the long term disability insurance. The other options are having the long term disability funded by the employer, the employee or a shared costs among both the employer and the employee. Employers are allowed to choose how much coverage that they will provide for their employees in term of salary percentages. The length of time of the plan benefits can be extended for a period of time. Some long term disability plans pay five to ten years worth of the disability benefits while will pay until the individual is 65-years-old, depending on which comes first. The average amount of the salary that one receives under the long term disability insurance is 50% to 70% of their current salary.

•	For an employee to be eligible to receive long term disability they must meet the requirements of a working for a certain length of time with their employer as well as a former full-time work schedule with the company. Full time is considered 30 hours per week or more. Individuals receiving long term disability insurance should expect to receive a percentage of their salary paid monthly. They should also expect these long term disability payments to begin anywhere from 90 to 180 days after the occurrence.

Since long term disability insurance usually is a follow-up of short term disability insurance, an individual may want to get started on applying for a long term disability plan while they are still under short term coverage, if they know that they are going to be needing it. Short term disability insurance cannot be extended, it can only be turned into long term disability insurance.

Short term disability insurance is a type of insurance that pays a certain amount of an employee’s salary for a specific time period. This short term disability can help those who are sick or injured. Due to the short term disability they have, they are temporarily unable to perform their specified job duties. Short term disability insurance is different from regular Social Security disability income.

•	The individual usually begins receiving the short term disability money about one to 14 days after they are rendered temporarily disabled and can no longer perform their job duties. Employees are often required to use their available sick days before the short term disability kicks in. It is because of the differences among individuals receiving short term disability insurance due to a serious injury and those receiving short term disability insurance due to an illness that sick days will often be used first.

•	A short term disability is often paid for by the employer of the company that the individual is taking a short term disability break from. However, companies do have the option to have employees pay for their own short term disability insurance coverage, with certain tax consequences for the employer. Employers have the right to order that sick days be used by employees first before the employee’s short term disability begins. Employers can also demand a doctor’s note from the employee proving the need for the short term disability.

•	There are different qualifications that must be met before an employee can be deemed eligible for short term disability insurance. The first one is that the employee must have worked for the employer full-time before the injury or sickness. This is considered 30 or more hours a week. Employees also have to have been working with the employer for a substantial period of time to qualify for short term disability.

•	There are things that an individual should expect when receiving their short term disability plan packages. The percentage of the employees previous weekly salary must be between 50% and 70% of their weekly salary. Unlike regular disability, the time limit that an individual can remain on short term disability insurance, usually between ten and 26 weeks. This time period cannot be extended. If one needs more time, then they must apply for long term disability, which has a more lenient set of regulations about the temporarily disabled person.

Knowing the rules of the state that an individual wants to receive short term disability insurance in is important to find out what they qualify for. The laws about short term disability insurance can vary from state to state.

Individuals with disabilities may qualify for a financial benefit from Social Security. Being eligible for this monetary stipend depends on the nature of disability. The extra money is intended to help individuals and families who have suffered a loss of income because a previously working individual became disabled due to an injury or sickness. There are several qualifications that a person with a disability must have to qualify for the Social Security benefit.

•	The first rule is that an individual with the disability must be physically unable to do the job he or she had previously performed. Typically, these kinds of jobs that an individual with disabilities can no longer work in are physically demanding jobs such as construction and other jobs that involve heavy lifting or strenuous activity. Sometimes worker’s compensation can help these individuals with disabilities but the disability must have occurred as a result of the job itself, such as falling off a scaffolding.

•	The second qualification that an individual with a disability must have is the inability to work any other job: for instance, one that is less physically demanding. This qualification is judged by the Social Security Income Program and if the individual with the disability is found to be capable of working in a different filed or job, then they will not be eligible for the disability benefit. This takes into account age, experience, education, and the general health of the individual requesting Social Security disability money.

•	The third qualification is that the disability that an individual has must be a disability that will affect their ability to work for at least a year. This is the result of an updated definition of the terms of disability. The Social Security Amendments changed the requirement that the disability be indefinite for an individual to qualify for the Social Security disability benefit disabilities in 1965. The new requirement was a time period of 12 months. The exception to this rule is if disabilities will likely result in the death of the individual.

•	About five million people receive some form of disability benefit in the United States.
An individual who has worked recently and long enough, based on quarters of coverage, may be eligible for receiving disability from Social Services. The benefits that one would receive because of the disabilities may start five full calendar months after the actual disability occurred.

Like regular Social Security for retirees, the amount of money one may receive for their disabilities depend on both the age of the worker and the actual record of earned income. Unlike retirees’ Social Security income, the individual must know that the disability is going to last for a certain amount of time to qualify.
