NDSA

The organization’s Board of Directors approved the name change at its annual meeting in January.  The new name and new logo were unveiled at the 2001 National Sports Festival for the Disabled, which NDSA hosts on an annual basis.  This year’s event was held in late June in New London, Connecticut.

The new name better reflects the broadening base of programs and services that the organization offers.  NDSA is not moving away from its original mission of providing quality sports programs for individuals with cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, and stroke survivors.  By using the term ‘Alliance’, it allows the organization to develop stronger relationships with other disability groups and the organizations that represent these groups.

Several of the sports currently offered are open to other disability groups and have been for a number of years.  With a more generic name, the organization will be able to expand by reaching out to those groups that continue to be under served in the area of sports, recreation and fitness for individuals with physical disabilities.

NDSA — Continuing to provide opportunities for individuals with cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, and stroke survivors and now expanding to see that “SPORTS FOR ALL” is truly there for everyone.
